While art history examines painting in terms of its patterns and styles, we rarely think about how it is done materially, whereas many pigments have been extremely toxic – including, paradoxically, the green. This workshop teaches us how matter is transformed into pigment, and how to synthesize our own painting, while considering the social and ecological impacts of pigments in general, and green in particular.
